"Monument"

Your love lingers in the wings of my being,
It is all-knowing, yet sometimes unseeing
Love is the reward of a patient heart
Mending the countless tearings apart
When all seems hopeless deep in the night
Despair evaporates in the wonderful light
Of dawn - the dawning on me and you:
To thine own heart be true!

Pain much more than we can bear
It seems we are always just halfway there
We close our eyes to dream our dreams
We both really know what forever means
I whisper your name like a lullabye
I shed a tear and let out a sigh
I pray with devotion and ask God why
As, like a wistful angel, you wave goodbye
