"On My 48th Birthday"

Birthday wishes come pouring in,
I realize I'm guilty of my sins -
Lies that claim I feel so youthful
Denouncing calendars as untruthful
My insistence mirrors are to blame
For my inability to look the same
Mixed emotions as I pass my prime
Moments growing precious more with time
This birthday of two score and eight
Can't convince me that it's not too late
To hope I'll reap my just rewards,
Play my song in all the right chords
Celebrate this birthday - what for?
Still I wish myself so many more!
