"Eire"

Killarney, Ireland February 1999

Here I am - the reluctant pilgrim
Infatuated by your majesty
And totally in awe of you
Through the eyes of a poet
I am fortunate to see your soul
And I am enamored by your beauty
Completely in love with you

I feel my pulse beating to the rhythm
Of the drums of your ancestors
And I am vicariously burning
With the passion of your people
And I am drenched by their resilience
And their character
I am hopelessly impressed

Not the land of my ancestors
But my love is no less
My mind has been enlightened
My knowledge has increased
My heart has been kissed
My memory etched with your face
Eire! You have embraced my being
And I embrace you in return
