Once upon a time,
We were young and green.
Love was new
And so very true...
You whispered in my ear,
'I love you from forever.'
You smiled and looked into my eyes.
My heart believed you.
When times were tough,
It was just me and you.
Love was mellow
And still so true for me...
You would wrap your arms around me
And whisper in my ear,
'I love you from forever.'
All my doubt would dissipate.
While we rode the seesaw
Of life's ups and downs,
Love was blinding -
And sometimes we could not see
What was really happening...
But when you touched my hand,
I felt your braille against my heart...
'I love you from forever.'
One day we woke up
To find a wall between us.
Love was somewhere -
Maybe locked within the wall...
And each of us felt
We were shut out or shut in.
The graffiti on both sides reading,
'I love you from forever.'
Time and space moved between us
To lead our hearts in two directions.
Love seems more memory now,
But our history has not dimmed...
Still I hear your sweet words:
'I love you from forever'
Which carries me through my years...
And my heart echoes your words.
