I waited for you,
Like a groom for his virgin bride
On the wedding night.
I waited longingly
Like a child of divorce
On visitation day
For the parent who never comes.
I waited in anticipation
Like an elderly man
For the postman bringing the mail.
I waited patiently
Like an outstretched christ
Waiting to be nailed to a cross.
You never came
And you never called.
It was just your game
And I am so angry
That I waited at all.
I foolshly waited in vain
Like a betrayed john
For a whore who never came back.
I suppose it's true what they say
That nothing can happen to us
Without our permission...
You certainly had mine.
