"The Cage"

This was written by my friend Dennis. I have read several of his poems and feel that he needs to continue writing. He does not seem to agree with me. This one is one my favorites of his and I am happy that he let me post this on my website.  - poetheart 06/01/00

A martyr was securely locked
        from an insensitive, arrogant society,
until freed by a welcomed intruder.
He is rescued from the decadence of his fallen world,
only to be dragged back into the anguish
of the killing terrain he knows so very well.
Subjugated again to a bondage
        he's been familiar with,
but a situation he never before experienced.
This captor fails to examine
the retention of fear in his servile prisoner,
        incapable of observing his affinity,
        apathetically unaware of his sorrow.
He was saved, but the horror remains.
Returned to a cell where his worthless existence will resume.

Who shall be next to inherit the cage?
