This is a new poem by Dona Lou Pearson, one of this site's favorite poets and a very dear friend of mine. I received it just today. - poetheart 12/08/00
A treasure rare burns in this heart
A gem of clarity and fire
Each ruby moment, suspends in time
With singular unfulfilled desire
Burns to ashes every backward glance
Obliterates each sad regret
Erases guilt, assuages sorrow’s sting
Forever, taking stolen chance,
The risks forgotten, every thought
Consumed by passion and desire
No wisdom through forestalling action
Nor inward thought of what reaction
From action might precipitate
No longer will the fire wait
And bitterness again may flow
To agonies of love-lost pain
As now becomes dimmed memory
When recklessness wins out again
With flames insidiously returning
To warmth, as luminescence heats
These searing, blazing pyres keep burning
Emotions exploding insanely hot
Bypassing wisdom in the moment’s heat
For what’s learned is so soon forgot
When love, or only lust, repeats
