This latest poem by my friend Dona was inspired by "looking at the moon...and something that really happened so long ago and so far away"...It's beautiful. -poetheart 10/22/01
In the crescent of the moon,
On a dark and quiet night
All is hushed and calmly still
Silence only on this hill
Broken by a whippoorwill
In the early Autumn chillBrings to mind another night
In half-forgotten memory
Glaz-ed over with lost time
Yet the feeling and the name
Of a youthful love remain
And the echoes of a tune
Whisper to my longing
Underneath the crescent moonOnce, a lonely moonlit highway
In the desert, like a dream
(My heart now replays the scene)
Stopped beneath a million stars
Left wide-open doors on the car
There, in wild, abandoned glee
Danced and laughed into the night
To a rocking melodyOn the pavement, in the desert
Underneath a crescent moon
Youth and spontaneity
Laughter, loving, sweet romance
And our silly desert dance
As recalled across the years
And so many traveled miles
Warms my heart against the cold
So, remembering, I smile
On the road to growing old
