"What happened to Emma Lazarus?"

I received this wonderful poem from Dona earlier this week. (To know more about who Emma Lazarus was click here. To read the poem "The New Colossus" by Emma Lazarus click here).

What happened to Emma Lazarus
And to Emma's "New Colossus?"
And tell me what has happened now
To US?
Arriving, back then, a multitude
With sweat and tears and fortitude
To forge this land of Attitude
Pride and heartfelt Gratitude,
The homeless came from Far and Wide
And became US
They came here to Ameica
To find opportunity, breathing space
A safer and more plenteous place
Bountiful and Beautiful
In which to dwell in peace, and to become
A proud new Mongrel race
They brought with them their songs of joy
And poetry, a love of family and thus
Created US
The poor, these huddled masses came
Gave to the land a wondrous name
When teeming shores relinquished
More than blood and sweat and tears
The echoes of Emma's tribute
Still ring true well past 100 years
And what she foretold
In words so bold was simply
US
What happened to Emma Lazarus?
She died and left her legacy
Poetic words of prophecy
And dire terror cannot sway us
Nor cause the Lady of The Harbor
In her majesty, to fall
She ever shall illuminate
And always she stands at the Gate
Our Mother, Liberty, stands tall
Above US all
