I know the feelings portrayed in this new poem by Dona Lou. - poetheart 05/16/02
On the edge of sorrow
On the precipice of happiness
Always on the edge and never inside
Never quite enough to satisfy the longing
But never quite able to say no and walk away
I stay on the periphery, the edge of knowing
The edge of another, sweeter life
The one with you in it, the daily routine
We eat, we sleep, we go about activities
Separate, apart, unknowable, unknowing
While keeping a secret thought
Aside from all the rest
I live in this fear, that it won't be sufficient
That one day the other life will overcome
And because of incumbency, and precedence
My importance will be superceded
And I will lose my place
On the Edge
Of your life
