I received this new poem from Dona Lou the other day...expressing angst, our favorite theme for poetry...Interesting she chose to use the British "pretence" rather than the American version of "pretense." I like this one. - poetheart 04/18/02
How could you pretend to love me?
Every word of love you said
Cut my heart and made it bleed
Then you left me here for dead
How could you pretend to need me?
Does pretence give you a thrill?
Was I just another victim
One more lonely heart to kill?
I have no desire to hurt you
Vengeance can't relieve my pain
But I can't forget this lesson
Or ever believe again
