This is a new, entertaining and inspired poem with a message. My friend Dona Lou sent it to me today in the hopes that I would like it and share it on my site. - poetheart 02/28/02
I went to the palace
To visit a great king
He gave me good advice
And a golden ring
We sat around and talked
About just everythingI went to the ocean
To see a mermaid fair
She wore fishy clothing
And had seaweed hair
We rode upon the sea
Astride her pet seahorse
She laughed and talked to me
And I loved her, of course
I went into the mountains
To find a wise old sage
He sat upon a log
But did not act his age
He laughed to think of sadness
And smiled at every woe
When it was time to leave him
I did not want to goI went to find a treasure
Wherever it might be
I sought both wealth and pleasure
And thought the world I'd see
O'er the great world I wandered
Such important folks I'd met!
Then I discovered as I pondered
It was their love I can't forget
A golden ring is but a token
Of something greater than a ring
I know the friendship of a mermaid
A wise old man and a great king
Friendship is the dearest treasure
Love's worth much more than purest gold
Smiles warm the heart with endless pleasure
And loving hearts never grow old© 2002 by Dona Lou Pearson
