"Wild stallion running free..."

My friend Dona Lou sent me this poem long ago. Recently, after sending her a copy of a poem I had written, she reminded me about this poem.  - poetheart 05/19/02

The wind talks to him
The rain kisses him
The sun warms him
Earth-mother feeds him
His home is everywhere
The wildness takes him
No man tames him
No woman claims him
King of the open sky,
The eagle soars above
And mountains hide his path
But on the Earth below
The stallion king reigns
And runs
For joy of running
He conquers mares
And sires princes...
He owns the prairie
He owns the canyon
He is forever free...
Not you...not me
