This new poem by Dona Lou Pearson is beautiful and vivid. - poetheart 08/13/01
Two ships pass on a starry night
The wind catching their sails just right
The moon shines softly in a cloudless sky
We are two ships, you and I
Two vessels charged with a load of care
With life, with sorrows and joys we bear
Your white sails gleam on a distant horizon
And I see your colors as the wind is risin'
We are two ships, you and I
We sail the oceans alone and apart
Yet I carry a thought of you in my heart
As the evening sun sinks into the deep
And as it rises from my dream-filled sleep
As tempestuous seas toss me about
With waves that threaten, of fear and doubt
We are two ships, you and I
I look to the future, a calmer day
When the wind has blown all the storms away
And we will anchor by some safe shore
In a haven of peace and rest once more
We will hail each other, home from the sea
And be glad of the time, and the company
We are two ships, you and I
