"Desire"

I like this poem because of its originality in expressing desire.  - poetheart 08/27/01

Desire waits,
A dozing cat
Lolling in the warm sun.
A subtle cue
Awakens the feline.
It jumps out of nowhere
And halts in rapt attention.
Wound like a spring
Ready to pounce
Upon the object of desire,
Which overrides all the competing stimuli.
Mature reason lays comatose
While flights of fancy
Dance across the mind's eyes.
Then the old man reawakens
And shoos the cat out the door
