"Energy Conversion"

I find Eunice Irwin's poetry fascinating. Every poem is another demonstration of her talent. As requested by many visitors - another poem by Eunice Irwin.  - poetheart 07/21/01

Energy conversion
Atoms tow the line
Endless stream of power
Kilowatts in kind

Sunlight heats the ocean
Evaporates to steam
Fills an empty atmosphere
Curious, it seems

Raindrops plow the earth
Botany's relief
Synthesized by sunshine
Chlorophyl's reprieve

Cycle life complete
It dies, and rots in time
Catalyzed organic stuff
By tinctured dose of lime

Pressured by encrusted rock
A million years go by
Once green fiber up above
An oil field to pry

Out it comes, black as gold
Explosive power hides
Refined to octane 93
Big pistons now it drives

Toxic gases fill the air
Mankind chokes and dies
More substance added in the pot
To convert or petrify
