This poem was submitted by Karl several months ago. I am pleased to include it in my collection of his poetry. - poetheart 10/02/01
My heart sang too long and loud.
It pierced the walls; they crumbled.
The song became a scream no one heard
as it echoed through the ruins
across the chasm ear to ear.No one heard until I let it out
as I sang to you again and again.
When the echo died you answered,
"We are friends."My heart sings softly now,
sometimes to itself,
sometimes to you.
I still hear it.Time wrought from deepest pain
as sweet repair, as mouths and years
evaporated.I look back in wonder.
What seemed eternal did not last. Except,
I know you and your kindness well. With the end of pain I left.
Self rebuilt sustains,
as yet a friend remains within,
the man who helped me mend.
