This is Patty's May Day Poem, written 04/29/03. When I read this one it warmed my heart. It's a very tranquil and beautiful piece. - poetheart 05/03/03
She--a lovely lonely maiden
Who wore a wreath-like crown
Walked in knee-high meadow wildflowers
In her May Day ankle-length gown
Cream-colored gauze of cotton
Embroidered on each cuff
An empire waist with a low-slung sash
Handcrafted, she was proud enough
The sun --it shone upon her shoulders
All the May Day morn
As she gathered bouquets of tulips
Near the pasture where there'd be corn
It was there in the fertile valley
She planted Marigolds and Forget-me-not seeds
To fill woven baskets and glazed pottery
To meet the villager's needs
With her watering can in the shade of the Great Old Willow
Wading in the rushing river's stream
She recalled the place where they embraced and promised
To be the other's dream.
And when the ripples on the glistening waters
Reached the distant banks
She hoped he still thought of Maggie Quinn
And warmly smiled to give her thanks.
