"Nasty Nuisance"

In her e-mail, Patricia writes, "The day after I wrote this, the Trenton Times front page had an article about the 'Foul' geese and all the havoc they create here in NJ. All park lovers can relate to this about the Canadian Geese that invade our space."  - poetheart 05/09/02

Protective of their young ones
Guarding geese goad and glare at me
Hissing beaks wide open
Hoping I will flee.

But I bring no danger to their darlings,
Fuzzy floating little puffs,
I have only come to canoe along
Like other Sunday nature buffs.

They can honk their sour horns
And leave their droppings all around
But I won't stay in their way
Or step near their fertile ground!

They are such ghastly creatures,
Unlike the pleasant quacking ducks
And have no subtlety or charms
Like the royally graceful swans
These gaggles of geese are just a nasty nuisance
To ALL the paddlers on the ponds!
