"Oh Woe"

This is Chris McCarthy's second poem on my site. Chris is also the author of "detsiwT" recently posted.  - poetheart01/11/03

Today I saw the face of despair,
I looked in its eyes, dazed as I stared.
I felt a sharp pain in my side,
My sadness I can’t hide.

The reporter told a story of war,
As I listened through my ears so sore,
Sore from hearing the hate,
Why does God choose this as our fate?

People fighting people because of a belief,
A belief that’s stubborn and lends no relief,
The child’s mind fragile and so easily burned,
Knowing not what they are taught but what they have already learned.
Their parents stuck in their place,
No room in their minds for another space.
Hate is darkness and ignorance its shade,
Turn on the lights and see what you’ve made!

The expressionless face of a war drawn race,
Like an angel’s sudden fall from grace,
We all stand together, a lone world in an infinite space,
Open eyes and open minds,
Lead us to the road that winds,
To peace, love and tolerance.
Everyone is equal, hate is not a word, love is only heard.
This is world I dream to find,
One day when our race isn’t blind,
We will all join together, in the imaginary ties that bind.
