A few weeks ago I received a poem called "The Shadow Knows" from Patricia Lynn, with the poet asking me my impressions of her poem. Then just today I received THIS copy (original version) of the same idea for the poem. They offer different takes on her idea and I decided to post both of them. Let me know your thoughts... - poetheart 03/19/02
A Shadow follows me in the darkness
Lying here I can't sleep a wink
Floating in and out of dreams
I just can't dare to think
All the night it haunts me
It's creeps along the wall
I resist the thought of it
Does it exist at all?
Still the silent shadow watches me
And still, I can't catch a wink
I toss and turn and turn and toss
With thoughts I shouldn't think
Awake, asleep; asleep, awake
Then I doze off
Someplace in between
The Shadow is both dark and tall
And wants me to dream it's dream.
Will it ever let me rest?
Its wickedness wanders through my head
I half hope it will go away
And leave me alone in bed.
