"This Girl"

Cristy Ramirez wrote this poem 10/07/01 and was kind enough to allow me to post it here on my website so it could be shared.  I think it's beautiful.  - poetheart 12/14/01

This girl.
With big eyes,
Wide and scared.
Eyes that have seen too much.
And now stare like two empty saucers
With no purpose.
This girl.
With a dent in her spine,
And a tilt in her step.
Uncertainty now owns
What confidence once possessed.
This girl.
With bitten lips
That are now cold and bruised.
When once they were warm and red,
And spoke of love honestly, and without fear.
This girl.
With a heart that knew no limits or pain.
And loved freely.
Now that heart beats carefully,
Kept safe within a cage of thorny ribs.
I am her.
