"The Workaholic's Heaven"

I find this to be very humorous poem.   - poetheart 02/15/02

The workaholic's heaven
Is the lonely housewife's hell
Save me from his love of work
Unlock me from this cell!

I'm stuck here waiting behind the bars
For inordinate amounts of time
Contemplating my break-out
Though I've committed not one crime.

The cell phone, e-mail, and pagers
Are his mistresses, no doubt
He's forgotten his wife and children
And what family's all about!

So clear the way --I'm busting out
Of suburbia's solitary sentence
I'm out of here - I hope he'll notice
And come to me with true repentance.

He'll say he's sorry for what he's done
Paying me no mind!
He'll read the mail -and be on the trail
Of reports that have fallen behind

So on it goes, I'm second best
To the career he's come to love
I have to wait here, serve my term
And pray to God above

I will tell him I've had enough
And can't stand it any more.
I want time and want some love
Or I'm walking out this door!

When all is done (that he has to do)
And retired with his dough
I'll be out of jail, to no avail,
And too old to tell him so.

So what conclusion must I draw
To save my sanity?
I'll work my tail right out of jail
And into his corporate life--
Land a position as his CEO
So he can love his precious wife!
