I received this piece from Belinda last week. She describes it only as "one of my lighter works" in the accompanying e-mail. I like this one very much because it is simple yet thought provoking and I decided to post it. Let me know what you think... Belinda is the author of "Robby's Keys" "Tears" and "Blood of My Blood" posted in recent weeks. -poetheart 12/20/00
I have a spider living on my kitchen
window sill,
I haven't the heart to kill her
because she is a mother.
I watched her spin her web and little
round egg sack.
I watched as her babies hatched
and climbed upon her back,
I watch as she hunts for food for her brood.I caught my spider and her family today,
I brought them out to the garden.
I found them a place of solitude and
watched as they crawled away.
As I stood washing dishes I noticed
something that made me smile,
A tiny spider on my kitchen window sill
forgotten by its mother, spinning a tiny web,
I wonder if I will soon see a tiny egg sack?by Belinda Bennett-Hartmann
