"You Can Hear It"

This is a song written by Matthew D. Ward.  Of this song he says: "I wrote a song last year or the year before called "You Can Hear It".  It has a great melody which I have been unable to forget. As a song, in total, it's good. But there are certain parts I like better than others." I am pleased to present excerpts from this song here. Matthew is the author of "Early to Bed" and "Far From Home" as well as some other poems.   - poetheart 06/24/01

You can hear a gunshot off in the distance
You can hear a child's life going with it
You can hear the pain as the mother cries
As tears start falling from her eyes
You can hear it, you can hear it

You can hear the hurt in a child's sweet cry
Just lost her mommy and don't know why
You can hear the pain in the father voice
As he says she's with the angels tonight
You can hear it, you can hear it

You can hear the pain in a child's voice
As he speaks of his only choice
To go into the 'blue' on his own
The mother might know, and the father don't care
Doesn't know what his son is doin' up there
But he will, he will

You can hear the rattle of the chain
As the policeman led him away...
He hadn't planned it this way...
You can hear it...
