I am real happy to have Richard's poem about the Yankees here on my site. He is in the process of having it published. I am a Yankees fan too and I love it.
a team for the ages......
from their field of dreams, we have seen much done
for many have witnessed all that was won......
the Babe, and Lou and a guy named Mick
the Scooter, and Billy and even the Stick.....the twenties, the thirties, the forties and more
it came in waves and was never a bore.......
clad in pinstripes, the leagues class act
the envy of all, and thats more than a fact.....with Reggie and Thurman and a guy named Dent
and a shot in Boston to the Promised Land sent.....
one swing from the Mick to the heavens would soar
a game winning homer and the crowd would roar.....2 guys named Roger, and a few records made
and the toughest out was a guy named Wade.....
with Bernie and Derek and Paul O'Neill
was easy to see how other teams would feel.....Elston and Yogi and Bobby and Moose
one swing away from fitting a noose.....
and there was Joe D, the class of them all
who rose to the top, seemingly, every fall.....from behind the mic, be it Mel or John-
"Thaaaah Yankees win" or "I'ts going..going..gone!"
we listened as a kid, with a glove, bat and ball
to our heroes exploits, who stood 10 feet tall.......Louisiana Lightning, Ford and Don. L
was easy to know that they were making it hell
from the visual splendor off River Street
they were mowin' 'em down- "YO, take a seat".....so to this team, and all through the years
they who gave it their all with smiles and tears.....
can look back and say, with pride from within
that The New York Yankees, were born to win......
we'll tip our caps to the toast of the town
and for the 25th time, they'll wear the crown.....
the famous "NY" thats caused many to wilt
and lose their souls, in The House That Ruth Built.......Richard J. Amoroso
